Hoppy Easter, Peeps!

(Note to self: If you dress your child up and make her take silly pictures, don't wait until 4 pm. You won't get a smile out of her.)

Chi-town comes to H-town

Last weekend, our friends Cindy, Dan, Sheila and Graham came to visit us from Chicago! We were beyond excited to see them in our part of the country and show them our hometowns. While living in Chicago, we spent lots of time with their families so it was fun to pull a vice-versa. On Friday, we took them to Nasa. I think Madeline was a little bored. After that, we took them out to eat at T Bone Tom's, a BBQ restaurant in Kemah that was featured on "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives". On Saturday, we took them to Bryan/College Station for a tour of Texas A&M, lunch at Freebirds, a trip to the Brazos County Livestock Show, and out to the Kleckleys for dinner. The boys even worked the cows by tagging calves! Maddie also had her first meeting with a baby cow. Jon's mom cooked her famous lasagna for dinner, then we headed back to Pearland to watch the UFC fight. On Sunday, we were up early to eat breakfast at The Breakfast Klub, a soul food place in midtown...YUM! Sunday afternoon we went to my parents house for a crawfish boil. Surprisingly, all of our guests enjoyed it and even tolerated crawfish peeling lessons from my dad. Sunday night, we made another Freebirds run before their flight at 9 pm. WHEW! It was a packed weekend, but it was SO much fun to spend time with them. The best of friends can pick up right where you left off, even if it's been 6 months. We miss you guys already!

What would her daddy think of this?

While looking for a specific outfit for Madeline, I came across this bathing suit. Not sure what to think...cute or creepy?

Silly Puppy

Halfway through our 1.5 mile walk yesterday, Fergie decided she'd had enough and proceeded to lay down. I picked her up and walked for a little bit, put her back down, and nada. Princess Fergie was over it. I could only carry her so far until my arms felt like they were going to fall off. Enter: my next genius use for the stroller. The neighbors must really think I'm nuts now.

Is this considered Dog-Child Labor?

I made a fantastic discovery today. Why not use the "mommy hook" (typically used to hold shopping bags) to attach Fergie's leash to the stroller? I did this mainly because I usually hold the leash around my wrist and it was hurting. As soon as I attached it, Fergie started walking and the stroller started moving...hmmm..... Surprisingly Fergie was unfazed, which surprised me considering she's all of 7 pounds and the stroller + kid = about 40 pounds. She also stayed on the sidewalk, but ultimately I got a bad case of mommy guilt. It was mainly for my amusement...I have no intention of letting my dog walk my child on a regular basis! :) I can only imagine what the neighbors were thinking...

Madeline loves bath time. And being naked. We might be in trouble.
Friends since we were 8 years old...pic taken at Smo's house. Please ignore the fact that I'm wearing this shirt in half my blog posts. I refuse to go shopping until I lose more baby weight.
Bella, Hunt and Maddie....I can't believe we got them to look in one direction at the same time! Good thing I don't have a pic of the 3 goofy mommies dancing and baby talking to get this snap..

Rodeo Houston

I'm not going to lie, there aren't too many exciting things about the city of Houston. However, every March this city catapults to a new level of coolness during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This thing is enormous and so much fun. A few weeks ago my mom, Grandma, Madeline and I went to shop and check out the animals. They even have a birthing center where you can see pigs, cows and lambs that are about to have babies or just had them. They also have this new thing called Mutton Bustin', where little kids ride sheep and attempt to hold on for 8 seconds (aka, little people bull riding). Last night's announcer said it best: "It's time to strap your kid to a live animal and call it entertainment!"
In my opinion, the best part of the rodeo is the performances. This year, we went to see one of my favorite groups, The Black Eyed Peas. I've been dying to see them in concert and was SOOOOOOOOOO excited when I found out they were coming to Houston! Jon, Aimee, her friend Rachel and myself went and we had great seats. My throat and body hurt this morning from all the screaming and dancing. It was like being in a club with 70,000 people and I'm pretty sure I haven't danced around that much since college. This may sound weird, but I never thought Fergie was very attractive... but she is much prettier in person! I don't understand how the 4 of them dance around so much in those outfits and don't sweat. It must be a famous person super power.

How many nicknames are possible for one person? When I was growing up my Dad had 3 nicknames for me: Manda Lea, Moi and Booger (thanks for that one, Dad). Once Madeline is able to communicate verbally, I'm afraid the child won't know what her name is! We call her:
  • Madeline
  • Maddie
  • Maddie G
  • Maddie Grace
  • Peanut
  • Pretty Baby
  • Bug a boo (my recent favorite)
  • Baby girl
  • Sweet pea
  • Princess pea
  • Pretty pretty princess
  • Goofball
  • Silly goose

I'm not sure where they've all come from, but it usually starts when she wakes up and I'll say, "Hi (insert nickname here)". I'll even admit, Jon and I have both accidentally called her Fergie...not so much anymore, but in the beginning it happened a few times. Oops.

The Anatomy of a Rollover

We reached a major milestone today...Madeline rolled over! She's been launching herself from her back to her side, so we figured it would happen soon. My grandparents are in town, so they came over with my mom and had dinner with us. Little did they know they'd get to witness Maddie's new trick. The first one was not documented but we have video and pictures of the second one. Poor thing can't figure out what to do once she gets on her belly though!

Disclaimer #1: Please ignore her non-coordinating outfit. The cute "Dairy Godmother" onesie is from my old roommate Jennifer, but Maddie got cold so I put on the first pair of pants of hers I could find. We did not realize it would be such an exciting evening!
Disclaimer #2: Those lovely spots on the blanket is evidence of the amount this child has been drooling...her first tooth better not be next!

Happy 3 Month Birthday Madeline!

Dear Madeline,

You are 3 months old today!

  • You weigh 11 lbs 8 oz and are inches long.
  • Your size 1 diapers are getting a little snug since your belly is growing
  • You can no longer wear 0-3 month clothes or anything newborn. You are now wearing 3 month and 3-6 month clothes.
  • You have the same eating schedule of every 3 hours
  • At night, you'll go to bed around 8:30, sleep until 5, eat, then sleep until 7 or 8 am. This makes us VERY happy!
  • You'll take a morning nap for an hour and constantly fight afternoon naps. Your best naps are taken in the car when we go run errands!
  • Your Daddy now puts you to sleep every night and it takes him about 10 minutes. He's a champ!
  • You are starting to interact with other people now. When people look at you, you'll smile and laugh.
  • We've left you twice for long evenings out with babysitters: Uncle Peter and Aunt Niki, and GiGi. You were an angel both times (at least that's what we were told)!
  • Your hands are your new favorite toy and you'll munch on them constantly.
  • You like to sit in your Bumbo seat and reach for toys.
  • When you lay on your back, you like to do "crunches" like you're trying to sit up.
  • You STILL look like your daddy!

We Heart New Orleans

This past weekend we traveled to Louisiana to celebrate a family friend's birthday and so Madeline could meet her extended family. It was a packed weekend, but we cherish anytime we get to spend with the fam. Madeline also had her first plane ride. We had planned on driving, but our family friends the Robinson's had a trip planned to New Orleans the same weekend, and oh yeah, they have a new plane. It was SOOOO cool...we got to fly in a private plane! It only took an hour and made us feel like celebrities. :)Madeline did very well. She laughed and then slept on Aimee most of the way, just like this... Happy Passengers Mr. Jim and my dad On Saturday we spent the day with my Aunts Gina and Ronda and ate lots of fried seafood, complete with a fried oyster po-boy, my absolute favorite! Saturday night was the party, and our little party animal had quite the temper. Good thing she's cute. We told my dad he looked like Scott from Keeping Up with the Kardashians and he felt the need to strike a pose. On Sunday, we went to church, then visited my cousin Jacque, his wife Stella, my cousin Ann Marie, and their boys. We felt like a daycare. These are all four of my Grandma and Grandpa's great grandchildren, and this is the best pic we could get...haha. After that, we drove to my Aunt and Uncle's house for a traditional Noto family gathering...lots of food, drinks and laughter. We tried to get a pic of my Paw Paw with his two great grandkids, but once again, this is the best we could do. We also took a four generation pic. Although the trip was a grand total of 36 hours, we had SUCH a wonderful time seeing everyone, not to mention a kick booty mode of transportation. :)
