Work in Progress

The title pretty much sums up my life this week.  The cooler weather has inspired me to do all sorts of projects, but trying to do all of them at once has backfired.  So here's what I'm currently working on:
Scrapbooking/Madeline's baby book...I've been diligently working on both.  It's a creative outlet for me and I enjoy it.

Painting the kitchen.  Currently trying to decide which one to go with.
Organizing ALL of Madeline's clothes.  This is everything, birth - 12 months.  I'm doing all the organizing in the formal living/dining room because it's time consuming and it stresses me out to have it all in her room.  The plan is to organize it all by age into space bags.  She has so many cute things for fall...lots of leopard print and purple. :)
The great bedroom furniture switch!  We were using my sister's queen bed for our guest room, so when she moved back into an apartment (and needed the bed back) we decided to get a king size bed and move ours up to the guest room (along with our big platform bed frame which I'm missing dearly).  The good news is the guest room is probably the best looking room in our house right now (considering every other room is consumed with one of my "projects").
side note: I don't think I've shared pics of the guest room, so here ya go.  The wall art was Jon's idea.  It's the skyline of Chicago broken into 8x10 pics...pretty sweet.

The bad news is the master bedroom looks disheveled and we have to get a new comforter.  Yes, getting new decorative things is fun, but choosing our first comforter was the biggest disagreement Jon and I got into during our wedding planning.  No joke. (we must have been extra cranky that day because now we just laugh about it)  I gave him the Pottery Barn catalog the other day and I got one maybe...lol.  So I have a feeling we'll be living like this for awhile.  The plan is for me to make a headboard for the new bed once we make the big comforter decision. :)

Fall decor...I LOVE LOVE LOVE Fall!  It's my favorite time of the year.  The first cool front always hits right before my birthday, so when we got our first taste of cool weather (60 degrees in the morning, my Chicago friends) I headed to Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spice Latte.   I got out my big box of fall decorations today but this is as far as I got with it.
I've also found a few fall decor craft projects online that I'd like to do but we'll see if I actually get to them.  I'm lucky to have such a wonderful husband who puts up with all my antics.  It might take awhile, but he knows one day I'll have this place back together again!

Aggie Ring Makes Seven!

On Friday, Jon's baby brother Mark got his Aggie ring!  All the Kleckleys, my parents and sisters made the trip to College Station to help him celebrate.  This was extra special because Mark is the 7th and final family member of the Kleckleys to get his ring.  He was so excited he couldn't sit still, and the whole day made me so proud and thankful to be an Aggie!

Madeline and Uncle Marky

Our Family

His ring is a size 15 1/2.  The biggest Aggie ring ever made was a size 17.

All the Kleckleys with the girls

The original seven all with Aggie bling!

The boys, youngest to oldest starting from the left.  Mark is 6'10" and Ben is the family shrimp at 6'3".

Marky with his "big" brother Ben...LOL

SIL's

Things That Go Bump in the Night

My poor child is covered in mosquito bites.  We really don't spend too much time outside these days, but somehow they find their way to her just from getting in and out of the car.  Last week she had one that swelled to the size of her arm, and now she has 2 more on her face.  And to make matters worse...
Around 5:30 am, I heard a loud bump through the baby monitor (so loud it woke me up).  I looked on the screen and saw Madeline on all fours, but she quickly fell back asleep.  I didn't think anything of it, until this morning I noticed a giant red bump on her head that wouldn't go away.  See the pic below?  That's not a shadow on top of her head.  It's the result of what I can only guess was "sleep crawling."  Bless her heart, combined with the bug bites she's looking pretty rough.  Good thing she has such a cute smile. :)

On another note, I just wanted to brag about how productive we've been today (only because it doesn't happen very often!)  We went to church last night, so by 1:30 pm today we:
  • Went to the grocery store
  • Cleaned out all of the kitchen cabinets and pantry
  • Made a month's worth of homemade chicken baby food
  • Painted the kitchen with samples for a new color
  • Went to Arne's Party Warehouse in Houston for a few things and to scope out stuff for Maddie's First Birthday Party
  • Went and bought a king size mattress (whoo hoo...bedroom makeover coming soon!)
  • Baked cookies
  • Laundry
  • Obsessively stalked Fantasy Football scores
And now massive amounts of blogging to catch up from the past few weeks.  I love the weekends!

Smo's Bridal Shower

Last Saturday Kelly and I hosted a bridal shower for our friend Stephanie (also known as Smo) at my house.  We did everything in hot pink and black.  I made a super cute "Live, Laugh, Love" banner but of course I forgot to take pictures.  We served lots of yummy food: pineapple chicken salad with sesame ginger dressing on croissants, spinach and artichoke dip served with baby carrots and crackers, fruit with Theta house cream cheese dip, a Chinese green salad and Southern Living brunch punch (which we happily spiked with a bottle of champagne since it wasn't a baby shower).

We also opted for cake balls from Cakes by Jula instead of the traditional cake.  These suckers were awesome.

Kelly and I were happy to host a party for Stephanie, considering she's hosted wedding and baby events for us.

Madeline tried to play with baby Jack.  It was so funny: she kept looking at him like "why won't you get up and play with me??"  Luckily she only whacked him in the face once. :)

Tricks of the Week

This is more like tricks of the last few weeks, but we've been busy...
Reading Books...and actually sitting still to flip through them

Crawling under the bed when Mommy and Daddy aren't looking (What's even more fun?  Sitting up smack in the middle where Mommy and Daddy can't reach you)

Wearing big girl jammies

Climbing into EVERYTHING

Waving

Clapping

Who Dat Nation

Today is the day....the official beginning of Professional Football Season!!  Wahoo!  We're all geared up: We had a trip to New Orleans last weekend, Fantasy Football teams are drafted (the Pink Flamingos are back with Drew Brees as QB), outfits are ready, a new fleur de lis logo is on my car and we've discovered Madeline LOVES the "Who Dat" cheers and "When the Saints Go Marching In" (as if there was any doubt...I'm working on uploading the video...will post soon).  And for those of you who think I'm nuts or don't know me very well, you must understand that our love for this team is so much more about football and a game.  It's about a love for the city of New Orleans, the spirit and the wonderful people who call it home, including most of my extended family members.  Enough said for the rest of the season unless there's a "Two Dat" (another Super Bowl win).

SO..here is the recap of our New Orleans trip.  We had the entire Texas crew make the trip: my parents, sisters, our family, Maria's boyfriend Curtis, Aimee's boyfriend Gabe, and Peter and Niki flew in from San Antonio.  Friday night we went into the French Quarter to walk around and have dinner.  They were setting up for the big concert that will be televised from Jackson Square tonight, so that was neat to see.  We ate at The Gumbo Shop (a new favorite)...

We also stopped at Cafe du Monde for beignets and Maddie got her first taste of one...yum!

On Saturday we drove by Drew Brees' house.  It was very nice and surprisingly very accessible.

My Aunt Julie just moved back to New Orleans from San Antonio, so Saturday night she hosted an open house/Saints pep rally for her family and closest friends.  All 100 of them. :)

We also took a big Noto family picture and we had everyone in it!  It's fun that the family is expanding.  In the last year we've "officially" added Niki, Madeline and cousin William.
Kleckleys + a Drew Brees (not gonna lie, he looks creepy in this one)

Texas Notos

Sisters
Madeline had fun playing with cousins Bella and William.  It's fun to watch how she interacts with other babies and kids.

On Sunday we went to my Aunt Gina and Aunt Ronda's house to spend a day by the lake.  Seriously, does it get any better than this?

All in all, we had such a fun and relaxing weekend.  I feel so lucky and blessed that we are so close with our extended family.  The only thing that could make it better?

A Saints victory over the Vikings tonight!  Bless you boys!

Happy 9 Month Birthday Madeline!

Dear Madeline,

You are 9 months old today!

  • You weigh 17 lbs 7 oz (25-50%) and are 28 inches long (50-75%)
  • You are wearing size 3 diapers
  • You are eating every 4 hours during the day
  • You are eating 3 meals a day and sometimes a snack in the afternoon.  You've started to eat chicken, blueberries and other pieces of things that your daddy likes to give you.  You are doing better holding your sippy cup.
  • You go to bed at 8 pm and almost always sleep through the night until 6:30 or 7 am.
  • Perhaps the best improvement of the past month is you will now take a good nap!  I got a room darkening shade for your room, and now you'll nap from 1-1.5 hrs in the morning and 1-2 hours in the afternoon.
  • You've started to clap your hands and get a grin on your face like you're so proud of yourself.
  • You wave "bye bye", but it's usually to yourself.
  • We've ditched the sleep sack and t-shirt for big girl jammies!
  • You'll stare down people you don't know and will pout at them until you feel comfortable.  We think you might be starting to get separation anxiety.
  • You like sparkly things.
  • You are talking and babbling all the time, and like to say "Da Da" in different tones.  We think you might be figuring out who "Da Da" really is.  You also make a different sound when you see Fergie.
  • You like to stick your tongue out and blow bubbles and will mimic someone if they do it to you.
  • You use your pointer finger to point at things.  You like to find little holes in your toys and poke them.
  • You now examine your toys instead of sticking them straight into your mouth.  You will sit with a book and turn the pages and look at them.
  • Your favorite toys are things that open and close, books with pictures of dogs and babies, and big stuffed animals.

The Best Purchase Ever

Meet my new best friend:

What is this ugly thing, you ask? It's a room darkening shade for Maddie's room.  And the most glorious purchase ever.  Why?  My child is now a NAPPER!!!!  Her 20-30 minute naps have turned into 1-2 hours of pure happiness for us all.  Now before you say, "Well, that was obvious.  Why didn't you darken her room months ago??"  We've had a dark blanket hanging over the window in her room for quite awhile, and it made the room significantly darker.  The new blackout shade doesn't make that much of a difference, but I guess enough that it counts. Enough to make me a happy camper.
