Monkey

She should have been a Monkey for Halloween because this child climbs over/in/under everything.  Yesterday I went to put something in my car, came back and this is what she was doing.  I was gone for 15 seconds tops.

Time to rearrange the furniture (again)!

She's been taking a few steps here and there, usually only if she's bribed with a toy.
I love the look on her face... "Hmmm, no thanks...I think I'll just crawl."

You Can't Make This Stuff Up....

Last week was my Aunt Julie's birthday.  She lives in New Orleans, and her friend Nidia called a store to order her a birthday cake.  Her nickname is "Juicy", so when Nidia ordered the cake the instructions were: "I want it to say "Happy Birthday" and then write big - JUICY".

Here's what they got.

Island in the Sun

When we were on our Honeymoon in St. Lucia 5 years ago, Jon and I said we were going to the Bahamas on our 5 year anniversary.  I can't remember why, but we went anyway! :)  Our moms took turns keeping Madeline so it was nice to be able to enjoy ourselves and not have to worry about her.  We were gone for 3 nights/4 days and it was the perfect amount of time.

We stayed at the Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau.  The water was a gorgeous blue/green and the beaches were white...absolutely beautiful and as usual, the pictures do not do anything justice!  The locals were also very friendly and we felt very safe.

Here are some pics of the hotel property:

View from our room.  I felt like Sarah Palin: "I can see Atlantis from my porch!"

(yes, these are peacocks)

One of the reasons we decided to go to this place was the number of restaurants...9!  I know this will come as a big surprise, but Jon made a schedule to ensure we ate at each one at the optimal time/day.

First night at the Italian restaurant

One of our favorites was the hibachi grill.  Our cook was Chan and dinner was more like a sing a long.  He had a song for everything and expected us to sing with him.

Sandals has their own private island, so that's where we spent our first full day.  Have you ever done a relaxation exercise where someone says find your happy place?  This is mine: Sandals Cay.

My happy place:

Jon's happy place:

We also ventured on to Paradise Island, which is where the Atlantis complex is located.  We were told to take the public bus and it proved to be quite the experience.  They don't have bus stops...you just wave them down as a bus is driving by.   A few minutes after we hopped on the bus driver said he needed to go to the liquor store before it closed.  He wasn't joking.  He pulled into the store, and the 3 locals hopped out with him and got a beer while the tourists stayed on.  Apparently there's no open container law in the Bahamas as long as it's in a brown paper bag!  One of the locals on the bus said, "Good thing we're all getting off this thing before he gets drunk!"

Anyway, Atlantis is absolutely nuts.  It's huge.  We aren't big gamblers but walked away from the casino up $85, mostly because Jon won $51 on the $.05 slot machine!

Our hotel had lots of activities.  One night we spend almost 3 hours in the piano bar, which I loved.  Jon did not, maybe because he got called out by the piano player for his awful singing skills.  I, on the other hand, was praised for my rendition of "Ring of Fire".  :)  (did I mention this place serves alcohol like water?)

On the last night, we ate at the fancy Crystal Ballroom.   I thought it would be fun to wear one of the same outfits we wore in St. Lucia 5 years ago to see how much we've changed.

We had a great time, and I highly recommend the Bahamas for anyone looking for an island beach trip.  I told Jon that if we could have Madeline there I would have stayed another week!  No plans for a 10 year trip (yet).  After all, according to the U.S. Customs agent, we're still newlyweds...ha.

Happy 5 Year Wedding Anniversary!

Today is Jon and I's 5 year wedding anniversary!  It's crazy how time flies.  I seriously feel like it was 2 years ago.  Since then we've moved 3 times, owned 2 different houses, changed jobs, got our furry dog child, and now our baby girl is almost 1 year old!  Last year I did a photo recap so you can view that here.

Tomorrow, just the two of us will be flying out to the Bahamas to celebrate. We're both overdue for a vacation.  I'm really looking forward to it, but will certainly miss my child for every bit of the 3 nights/4 days we'll be gone.   Our moms will be watching her so I know she will be in good hands.

I dyed my hair dark yesterday and its looking a little goth, so I'm hoping to get a good tan!  If you need me the next few days I'll be here.

With this one. (he's going to kill me when he sees this...hahahahaha)

Free Holiday Cards from Shutterfly!

Do you have a blog?  If so, read further.  If not, you may want to start one because Shutterfly is giving away 50 free holiday cards to bloggers who sign up here.  We've been sending out Christmas cards for the past five years, almost all of which have come from Shutterfly.  They offer a wide variety of options and I've always been able to find something cute.  If you're looking for a creative gift, I highly suggest Shutterfly's calenders.  My Aunt has them made every year for Christmas and we all love them.

Aside from Christmas cards, I also use Shutterfly for photo storage and creative projects.  A few months ago I made a photo book with Madeline's professional 6 month pictures, and now I'm a photo book addict!  I'm currently working on 2 other photo book projects.  They also have this cool feature where you can instantly convert a larger size book into a smaller one.

Thanks for reading my infomercial...really felt like this was an awesome deal and wanted to spread the word!  :)

Tricks of the Week

This little stinker is getting creative.  I guess there are not enough things in our house to climb over/in/under/through, so she pulled off the small trunk I have under this table so she could climb on it.
And what is this genie leg thing she has going on?  It's usually accompanied by a pouty lip and scrunched forehead, so maybe it means she wants to get out??

Today she finally looked at me and said "ma ma"!!  It happened a few times so I think she understands.  The sad part?  It comes a week after she started to say "tickle".  Oh well.  I'm sticking to my theory that she knows exactly what she's doing!

Madeline's First Rockets Game

For those who don't know, my sister Maria is part of the Launch Crew for the Houston Rockets (they do cheerleading and stunts throughout the games).  On Sunday she got us tickets to the game...it was at 6 pm, so we thought we'd be adventurous and take Madeline.
Turns out she LOVED it.  As soon as we sat down, she started bouncing and would clap when everyone else would.  Maybe I'm partial but it was so friggin' cute. (picture quality sucks...sorry.  It's getting harder to take them with a child who hardly ever sits still)

When Maria would perform we tried to point out Aunt Weasie (her nickname) to her.

At halftime she was able to visit us and walk around.

Maria's big performance wasn't until the 4th quarter, so Jon and I took Madeline up to the kids are where we were able to...

Compare our height to Yao's...

Compare our footprints to Yao... (to give you an idea, Jon wears a size 13!)

Try on his shoes...

And take some fun pictures!

To top it all off the Rockets won their first regular season game (finally). :)
