Maddie-isms: Multi-Cultural Edition

When I dropped Madeline off at school this morning, her teacher asks, "Is your family part Spanish?" Me: "Um, no...why?"
Teacher: "The other day she was saying, "ay├║dame, por favor"
Me: "She watches alot of Dora." (face turns red)
Teacher: (laughs) "Oh, ok!  We read Dora books in class but that has never come up."
Me: "Oh.  So what does that mean?"
Teacher: "It means help me, please.  She was trying to put on her backpack."

Lesson learned over the past two days:  This child is a serious sponge.  Must start majorly sensoring myself before it gets us both in trouble, starting with the words "sucks" and "friggin'".

Me: "What does what mean?"
Madeline: "Mitt Momney"

Happy 9 Months Andrew!

  • He weighs 21 lbs 8 oz (65%), is 29 inches long (75%) and has a 17" head circumference (10%)
  • He wears size 5 diapers and 12/12-18 month clothes
  • He's taking five 6oz bottles of formula each day
  • He no longer likes baby food but still struggles a bit with feeding himself.  It makes mealtimes a challenge, but we're working on it.  We give him pretty much anything that we're eating.  His favorites are bananas, cheerios, and Granny's lasagna.
  • He sleeps from 8pm - 6:30 am.  In the morning he naps from 8:30-10 am, and most of the time I have to wake him up.  In the afternoon he'll sleep from 1-3 pm.
  • Andrew is ALL over the place.  He's a speedy crawler and can climb up the stairs.
  • He can pull up and half of the day it's his source of entertainment: "Hmmm, can I pull up on this?"
  • He has found his voice and I think he's trying to compete with the rest of us for who can run their mouth the most.  He squeals, squawks, and says dada, mama and baba.
  • He has the cutest little baby giggle.  Andrew and Madeline like to giggle back and forth in the car and it's so funny.
  • He is so squirmy.  He'll grab at anything within his reach.
  • He can clap his hands together a few times.
  • Both kids are playing really well together.  They still constantly tackle each other, but they are starting to sit and play together in peace.
  • His favorite toys are the Laugh n' Learn play table and little play kitchen

Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday we took our little pumpkins to the patch at Madeline's school.  As Andrew gets older and easily distracted, it's so difficult to get good pictures of them together, but we sure did try!  A big thank you to Granny for making the adorable matching pumpkin outfits!

American Girl Store

Last week my mom and I took Madeline and Andrew to the new American Girl store and bistro in Houston.  Any female around my age should instantly be jealous that this place did not exist during our American Girl prime years.  I had Molly and my best friend Kelly had Samantha, and we would spend hours playing with our dolls.  Now, It's crazy how many different dolls, outfits and accessories they make.

Madeline brought her Bitty Baby so we could pick out a new outfit for her.  She loved walking around and holding all the dolls.

"It's just like my bitty baby!"

She picked out a pink tutu and crown for Bitty Baby, along with a feeding set.

After shopping we had lunch at the American Girl bistro.  It was SO cute!  They have high chairs for your doll.  If you don't have one, fear not:  the bistro has quite the selection of dolls you can choose from.
Madeline was very good about sharing her food with Bitty Baby.

See the cute little cup?  The waiter brings the doll a cup when they bring the drinks.

Andrew was a good sport, until he tried to grab the baby.
Having a little girl is so much fun.  I see many trips back to the American Girl store in our future!

30th Birthday Party

We love any excuse for a party, and what a better excuse than a milestone birthday!  On Saturday night we had my 30th birthday celebration on the rooftop terrace at Maria's apartment.  The terrace overlooks downtown Houston and it was the perfect atmosphere to celebrate.

The view
My mom made this board with pictures of me throughout the years.

My grandparents drove in from Morgan City, LA.  Love them!

Love, love, love.

Theta friends...I'm so glad all of you could make it!

Oh yes, we did. :)

It was way too windy to light the candles so I had to pretend.

Aimee and I were born 11 years and 3 days apart.  I was so happy that she came in town from LSU so we could celebrate our birthdays together.

Best sibs ever!  Love them!

Kleckleys - Granny and Papa K left early to take the munchkins home.  Thank you for babysitting!

Childhood friends...It's great that we've known each other for years and still get together!
Emily and I
My SIL Niki couldn't be there, so she made me a sash and personalized margarita glass...and let me wear her shoes. :)

H-Town at night
Thanks to all our friends and family who came to the party!  It was SO much fun!
