Valentine's Day

We had a nice Valentine's Day with our little loves.  The day before  Madeline's class had a Valentine's Day party, complete with ice cream sundaes!  I found the cutest owl Valentines online.  How did I function before Pinterest?  I might be losing my creative edge, but whatever.  My web browsing and pinning skills are top notch.  Anywhoo.... (no pun intended:)

I thought the Valentines were precious.
On Valentines morning the little people opened gifts: Sippy cups for Andrew and a hair dryer to keep upstairs for Madeline.
They were ecstatic.  I love that they are so easy to impress at this age.

For dinner I made Prosciutto Wrapped Scallops.  Sounds fancy, but it was super easy to make and SO yummy.  Splurge and get the good, fresh scallops.  It's totally worth it.
For dessert I made Pecan Pie Cake Balls (Jon's request).  Another super easy recipe:
I put all the ingredients in a food processor before rolling them to make the cake balls look pretty.  If you attempt these, I suggest using half the bourbon.
I hope you're Valentine's Day was as sweet as ours! :)

13 Months

  • He weighs 24 lbs, wears a size 5 diaper, 18 month clothes and size 4.5 shoe
  • He sleeps from 7:30 pm-6:30 am. Naps are 1 hr in the morning and 1.5 hrs in the afternoon
  • His favorite foods are turkey, cheese, bananas and milk.  He doesn't like strawberries or most veggies.  I try to sneak them into muffins and pancakes so he'll eat them.
  • He is walking everywhere, and on the verge of running.  He falls quite a bit chasing after Madeline.  This week he's had two bloody lips and a big knot on his forehead from moving to fast.
  • He's really into grunting and making "man" noises.  I must say "wow" alot, because he's picked that up and usually uses it in proper context.  He is saying "mama" more, which I love.
  • He loves to look at books, play in the cozy coupe and walk around with the little dog from Madeline's playhouse.

The ABCs of Me

I've seen this on multiple blogs this past week, so why not?  Bandwagon, here I come.
Age - 30.  It's not that bad, although I do feel like I should act more like a grown up.
Bed size - King.  Best decision ever.
Chore you hate -  Cleaning toilets and the shower.  This used to be Jon's job because of how much I despise it, but apparently we don't agree on how often this needs to be done. :)
Dogs - Our dog-child, Fergie.  Five year old, seven pound Maltese.
Essential start to your day - Children sleeping past 6:30.
Favorite color - Pink.
Gold or silver - Gold
Height - 5'4"
Instruments you play -  None.  Wish I could play the piano.
Job title - These days: Chief Operating Officer of the Kleckley household.  Old days: Senior Inventory Analyst for the Sears Corporate Office in Refrigeration.  I played on spreadsheets and it was fun (seriously, I'm a nerd).
Kids - Madeline is 3 and Andrew is 1.  They wear me out, but are so stinkin' cute that it makes up for the dark circles under my eyes.
Live - Pearland, TX - the Westside
Married - 7.5 years.  Good times.
Nicknames - None really.  When I was born my dad called me booger.  Thanks, Pops.  He later upgraded it to 'Manda Lea.
Overnight hospital stays - Twice for having babies.
Pet peeve - Someone who may or may not be my husband once told me I have too many pet peeves.  What can I say, I'm never short of an opinion.  Here's a few of them:  When people don't RSVP*  People who leave Mass in between communion and when the Priest exits the church.  Leave directly after communion or wait until the Priest leaves.  Have patience, peeps.*Indecisiveness*A messy car*People that park in "customer with child" spaces who clearly have no children with them.  Lady with the five inch heels, you cannot use your shoes as an excuse (true story)*Ok, that's enough for today. :)
Righty or lefty - righty
Siblings - Peter (27), Maria (25) and Aimee (19).  Best sibs a girl could ask for!
Time you wake up - Whenever the first munchkin makes a peep, usually between 6 and 6:30.
University attended - Texas A&M University.  It was the only college I applied to and couldn't imagine going anywhere else.
Vegetables you dislike - Cucumbers and Olives! YUCK!
What makes you run late - I underestimate the time it takes to pack the diaper bag.  If I'm leaving the house by myself (which is rare) I'm usually running early!
X-rays you’ve had - Dental, lungs for bronchitis, jaw for getting hit in the face with a golf club when I played golf in high school.  That's a long story.
Yummy food -My faves are oyster po-boys, key lime pie, creme brulee, enchiladas and caprese salad.
Zoo animal favorite -  I love to watch the orangutans.  The last time we went to the zoo every single one of them was walking around with a towel over their heads.

Andrew's First Trip to the Zoo

Yes, he's a year old.  Which also means Madeline hasn't been to the zoo (20 minutes from our house) in over a year.  Go ahead, judge. :)  We have a dog and she sees cows when we go to Bryan.  That sort of counts, right?

Anywhoo, after being off of work for awhile, my dad starts his new job on Friday.  My parents wanted to do something fun with the kids before he went back to work, so we took them to the zoo on which I'm convinced was the most beautiful, perfect day ever (70 degrees, sunny, light breeze).  Both kids had a great time.  Andrew would start staring at the animals and wouldn't look away.  Madeline was focused on two things: jaguars (not sure why), and obsessing over the animals having a mommy, daddy and the occasional brother or sister.

The lion wasn't dead: He was sunbathing and napping.  Maybe I should move to the zoo.

The giraffes: Funny story about this guy.  He stuck his head out of the contained area, close enough where you could touch him.  It was neat until a zookeeper came running over and told us to stand back.  He was moving his head around like a feather in the wind, and apparently a giraffe's head weighs 200 pounds.  Ouch.

The kids were just as excited about the ice cream as they were about the animals.  Add the sprinkles, and I'm pretty sure Madeline thought it was the best day ever.

What a Ham

The kids were snuggling in their PJs the other morning and were being cute.  I got out my camera and told them to smile.  This is what I got from Andrew.
The kid loves the camera.

Going Green

I've been on a healthy eating kick lately, and for breakfast I've been enjoying this awesome looking drink:

It doesn't taste as bad as it looks.  In case you're feeling adventurous, the ingredients are:
1 apple, 1 banana, 1 cup of Greek yogurt, strawberries, 1/2 an orange and.... fresh SPINACH!  Honestly, it's pretty tasty if you can get over the color.  Imagine my surprise when Ms. "I refuse to eat anything other than cheerios, chicken, frozen peas and PB&J" requested some of this.

Yup, that would be my kid DRINKING spinach.  Everytime I make a "green drink" she asks for some.  If only she knew...

Madeline's Major Milestone

I've been waiting 3 years, one month and one week for this.
(what, did you think she could read a novel or something?)
Excitement only a mother of a girl could appreciate.  Madeline did not have enough hair to even think about using a hair tie until she was almost two.  By then, she was WAY too opinionated, but I pleaded on a daily basis because I get SO tired of hair in her face.  She would freak out at the sight of a hair tie.   We've been getting by with small hair clips or bows, which never last because her hair is so thin.
For the past week we've started every morning with a pony tail or pig tails.  It may only last until lunch time, but it's a start.  I'll consider it a major achievement when I pick her up from school and she still has her hair up.  For now, she still comes home with hair in her face.
Seriously. Love it.
