Theta Friend Weekend

In mid-July we had a Theta friend reunion in Houston.  I must say this was a highlight of my summer.  We don't see each other nearly enough, but everytime we get together we pick up right where we left of.  This August marked our 14th year of friendship.  And the laughing....I haven't laughed that much in a LONG time!

On Friday night we ate at Beaver's.  Hours fly by when we get to talking.  There's just way too much to talk about. :)

Saturday morning we met for brunch at Tiny No. 5's.  I had never been there, but the food and atmosphere was wonderful!  After brunch our plan was to go lay out by Jenny's pool, but instead we got caught up in looking at old photo albums.  There was so much goodness and fun memories in those pictures.

Saturday afternoon we had appointments for mani/pedis, which included endless amounts of Skinny Girl cocktails.  Oops.

After mani/pedis we headed to Ariel's house to get ready for dinner. Yay for the selfie stick!

For dinner we went to a restaurant called Corner Table.  It's a Paleo restaurant, so the menu included things like lasagna made with butternut squash "noodles" and chocolate "pudding" made with avocado.  It was actually pretty good!  Jamie joined us for dinner.

After dinner we went to a bar in downtown Houston.  Let's note a few things, keeping in mind that I'm an old person and no longer hip or cool:
1.  Since when did downtown Houston have a nightlife on the weekends?  Parking was crazy.
2.  I have not willingly been in a bar past midnight since.....forever??
3.  We had a great time people watching and analyzing the outfits that young 20's males are wearing these days.  The amount of skinny jeans was entertaining.  At one point, a young guy walked into a bar and one of my friends said, "My husband is old enough to be that kid's dad."  And that was the truth.  It was SO funny!!
4.  The pregos were troopers! Willingly going to a bar after midnight when you can't even drink?? That's a true friend. :)
5.  We forgot to take a Theta kite picture.  No matter how old you get, this is a sorority girl fail.

After the bar some of us headed back to Jenny's house to spend the night.  It was my first night away since Preston has been born and it was glorious.  I didn't exactly catch up on sleep because we were up talking until 2:30 am, but it was so worth it.

I missed Sunday brunch for another event we had planned that day, but it was so enjoyable spending the weekend with these girls.  Love you all bunches!

The beginning of July was the first time little dude got up on all fours (at 8 months old).

We also discovered his love of blueberries.

His first movements were backwards, which often landed him stuck under the ottoman in our living room.

July's bit of Instagram wisdom:

One of the highlights of the month was seeing Garth Brooks.  We went with my parents and the concert exceeded the hype and more.  We had great seats and Garth was an amazing entertainer.  It's crazy how many hits he has.

This is what happens when a 5 year old takes your phone...selfies of Girrafey.

Jon took Andrew to Home Depot one morning and it happened to be during the kid's workshop.  He brought home a wooden car that they put together and painted.

 When did he turn 17??

Here are a few comparison shots of the boys.

My mom, Aimee and I took the kids to see Inside Out.  Preston behaved (for the most part).  It was a cute movie, although I must say I was a little disturbed by the fact that "Disgust" and I shared the same tone of sarcasm.  Yikes.

I can't remember what this is from, but it doesn't happen very often!

We went to breakfast one morning and Madeline was channeling her inner flower child.

One Sunday evening we went with some friends to a Sugar Land Skeeters game.  They have lots of fun activities for the kids: a splashpad, rides and a big park.  And baseball. :)

In mid-July Madeline went to VBS at Second Baptist church.  She was in a class with most of her friends, and they enjoyed learning about the ultimate super hero, Jesus!

While Madeline was at VBS, Andrew spent the week in Bryan at Granny Camp.  He helped Papa K fix the camper, played with Will and had lots of yummy treats.

Quite often Madeline will ask to give Preston his bottle.  Most of the time it ends up in a wrestling match.  How does she thank him?

She puts bows in his hair.

Did you know yellow watermelon was a thing? I didn't, until I accidentally bought one.  Preston loved it!

We love when Jack and Brooke Fasano come to town!

Jack wanted to know why I always take pictures of them.

We hadn't seen Father Fred in months, so we made a trip to League City to see him while he was at my parents' house.

My friend Emily, who I will declare the Hostess with the Mostess, started a bunco group for a group of us in the neighborhood.  She hosted the first month at her house and it was a blast!  Such a fun group of ladies!  Below are 5/12.

One afternoon we met my parents and siblings for lunch at the Monument Inn overlooking the ship channel.  (My dad, Maria and Peter work near that area.)  Madeline and Andrew loved looking at the big ships and eating Monument Inn's famous cinnamon rolls.

This boy consumed one by himself!

My friend Valerie has a pool in her backyard, and was so gracious in having us over to her house to swim multiple times this summer.  We met this group of ladies and kids when Madeline was 6 months old and they have been such a blessing to us.

It's worth noting for our "family scrapbook" that Jon was the #1 salesperson in his company in June (results posted in July).  He's always near the top, but it was a big deal to be #1.  We are very proud of him and all of his hard work, and he deserves to be bragged on.  I made him take a picture holding up the #1, but will not post it for the sake of my marriage. :)

One afternoon all three kids refused to nap, so I took them to a sno-ball stand instead.  They were in heaven.  Check out Preston's face.

After two years of hard work, Uncle Ben graduated from that "other" school (t.u.) with his MBA.  We celebrated with a party in July.  We are very proud of him, even if it means the burnt orange color now resides in his house.

Andrew though the little bears needed some table conversation.

'Tis the season for new vehicles.  After 12 years, my brother got a new truck.  I'm blowing this picture up for Preston's 16th birthday.

In case you've forgotten, we have a dog. :)  Fergie turned 8 in July!  Most days she's more like a cat and tends to ignore the kids, but she is a really sweet dog and we love her.

Madeline and Andrew spent a week with my mom and attended VBS at St. Paul's.  My mom sent this picture to me on the second day.  Madeline wanted to join the big kids on stage to sing songs.  The VBS teacher told my mom, "That girl is going to conquer the world."  I don't know if that's a compliment or if I should be scared.

While spending the week in League City, they went to the tea room with Bella...

...did some yoga and karate moves on face time...

...and met some monkeys.

My mom taught the "school" part of VBS to 3 and 4 year olds.  Andrew told me, "I learned about Jesus in Mrs. Kim's tent."

At the end of July we made a whirlwind trip to South Padre Island to the Fasano's beach condo.  (Ingore my terrible pictures).  Kelly and I are so fortunate that our kids play well together.  We had a great time in SPI.

And that's it for JULY!
